Polyergo Designs The Ideal Summer Home in Crete, Greece

Set atop one of the innumerable slopes of Greece’s largest island, known for its varied terrain, which ranges from fine-sand beaches at Elafonisi to the White Mountains, this expansive Crete residence represents the ideal summer home. Showcasing natural ventilation and a consistent internal temperature through a stair axis chimney, Greek architecture company, Polyergo has impeccably adapted its design to suit the surrounding orography.

Comprising of three volumes centered around a palatial courtyard and imposing staircase, the two-story Polyergo residence not only lies a mere stone’s throw away from the ancient village of Kato MixorrĆ²uma in Rethymno, but strategically between an old oak tree and an archaeologically-protected stone construction – securing it a highly reserved and private ambience.

Characterized by a distinct funnel shape, the house utilizes a combination of stone, wood, metal and plaster in its construction, with direct links to the outside compound for easy exit and return. Featuring oak wood, the interiors are rich in material including jute, linen, and cotton fiber, which don every inch of the residence’s custom-designed furnishing.

Prided for its sustainable design, the Polyergo residence does not require aircon, even on the hottest days, thanks to its natural ventilation system, and the addition of both a luxurious swimming pool and two solar panels which assists in controlling, absorbing, and redistributing solar heat.
